Prolozone Therapy — How It Heals and Rejuvenates

By Dr. Benjamin Busch, DO, MBA

What is Prolozone Therapy?

Prolozone Therapy is a treatment that injects ozone into injured tissues to restart or reinvigorate the healing process. Prolozone comes from “proli,” which means to regenerate or rebuild, and “ozone” is an energized form of oxygen that causes a temporary “therapeutic stress” that pushes the body to respond with numerous healing antioxidant and biological reactions.

Your body already uses ozone and reactive peroxide molecules in daily immune responses and frequently handles reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the metabolic and detoxifying cascades within your cells. The therapeutic delivery of ozone into targeted tissue stimulates cellular reactions that have tremendous healing and rejuvenation effects.

Main benefits of Prolozone Therapy

ViveWell uses the natural biological benefits of Prolozone Therapy to treat 3 main categories of patient complaints:

  1. Degenerative musculoskeletal conditions
  2. Aesthetic skin conditions
  3. Fat loss

Musculoskeletal applications — joint, tendon, ligament and muscle

Looking for a therapeutic option to help relieve pain or injuries? It’s no secret that as we age things begin to change. Joint tissues already have low levels of oxygen and reduced blood flow, which limits the supply of nutrients and healing components. Low oxygen levels cause a buildup of lactic acid, which often results in pain, inflammation, and slow healing. Add injury and other illness to the equation and it’s no wonder millions of people suffer from degenerative joint conditions.

Prolozone Therapy for musculoskeletal healing consists of two components: nutrients and ozone. The procedure adds nutrients and ozone involved in the regeneration process into the injured area. The ozone acts directly on the treated cells to improve metabolism, stimulate regenerative healing and increase blood flow, allowing the vitamins and minerals to spread further and deeper into joint spaces. It modulates the body’s inflammatory responses and speeds up the healing process.

Oftentimes, patients choose to “stack” regenerative treatments by pretreating the area with prolozone and nutrients then adding additional healing elements like our PRP Therapy, peptides, and exosomes, which can be used together for exponential healing benefits.

Unlike steroid injections, which only reduce inflammation for a short period of time, prolozone treatment can assist in new tissue development and aid in reducing pain in the long term. In fact, research in Clinical Rheumatology concluded that while both corticosteroid injections and oxygen-ozone injections were both effective in reducing pain for patients with knee osteoarthritis, the effects of the oxygen-ozone injection lasted longer compared to the corticosteroid injection.

Overall, prolozone therapy:

  • reduces inflammation
  • relieves pain
  • enhances circulation
  • facilitates tissue repair

What about aesthetics? Prolozone helps skin, too.

The role of ozone in our bodies is truly beautiful. It’s a natural and elegant therapy for rejuvenation. If you’ve ever wished you could regenerate your skin to treat cosmetic flaws, ozone therapy might be what you need. It’s a simple, non-invasive technique to revive skin that’s dull or damaged. Thousands of practitioners worldwide are using ozone gas injections in their aesthetic practices to treat active acne and its scars, wrinkles, sagging skin, spider veins, scars, stretch marks and other signs of aging, refreshing their patient’s natural beauty.

The medical spa and aesthetics industry has long-used the principle of “therapeutic stress” when causing injury to dermal layers in hopes of stimulating regeneration of more youthful skin. Lasers, microneedling and emerging new techniques all rely on the body’s response to injury for the formation of new collagen and refreshed appearance of skin. Ozone is so strongly oxidative that it kills pathogens, increases circulation and decreases inflammation. It’s no wonder that ozone’s molecular therapy works to restore inner beauty.

We get the best results with ozone for fat loss by treating the underlying cellular inflammation and insulin resistance causing the metabolic changes. Studies show people achieve optimal results for body contouring and aesthetic rejuvenation when used in conjunction with systemic ozone infusions that permeate the body’s tissues with healing messages.

How does the therapy work?

Prolozone Therapy at ViveWell

Treatment varies from person to person, depending on one’s ability to heal and the extent of the situation. Some people respond to injections after as few as 3 or 4 treatments, while others may need more. The injections are repeated every couple of weeks until you notice maximum improvement. More severe situations usually need more injections than others.

Prolozone Therapy is a safe, natural and often permanent treatment method. No side effects have been reported when it is properly used. At ViveWell, we know each person’s situation is different, and we tailor your treatment to you.
