Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness can occur in anyone, but most frequently it affects people not accustomed to higher elevation, typically over 8,000 feet. Other factors that contribute to altitude sickness include caffeine and alcohol. So, if you are not used to being at elevation, consider cutting down on these dehydrating substances ahead of time. If you plan to ascend into the mountains from sea level or come to visit the Denver metro area from out of town, consider this infusion when you arrive as preventative treatment for altitude sickness.
Key Nutrients
Anti-inflammatory (ketorolac)
This is a potent anti-inflammatory medication that can be added to some of the above IVs. This medication immediately decreases pain in the body or gets rid of headaches. The physician will first make sure you have no signs of kidney disease , or no reported personal history of kidney dysfunction prior to administering this medication.
Anti-nausea medication (ondansetron)
This is a medication that can be added to your IV to help decrease nausea. This is sometimes added to our Migraine Relief IV, or Hangover Rescue IV when nausea is present. We also add this to our altitude sickness IV, when required.
Magnesium
More than 300 enzyme systems in the body require magnesium as a cofactor, including protein and DNA synthesis, energy production, muscle and nerve function, glucose control and blood pressure regulation. In addition, it contributes to bone health and relieves muscle cramps. It also improves sleep, treats headaches and is a natural anxiety reliever.
Vitamin C
A powerful antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals and plays a role in controlling inflammation and infections. It helps make several hormones and chemical messengers that are used in the brain and nerves to help with improve mood, fatigue and decrease symptoms of depression. Vitamin C also helps with healing wounds and injuries because it’s involved with making collagen, a fibrous protein in connective tissue that is woven throughout various systems in the body: nervous, immune, bone, cartilage, blood, and others.
